Its been busy at the farm, but its all behind the scenes.
Snow melt has finally begun with a spring warm (that is lasting a whopping two days!). But in that time, I was able to knock down a few more standing dead trees for firewood (this was the first year I didn’t have to buy wood, thanks largely in part to my friend Dennis and his “land clearing project” – I was able to keep all the wood!). Just two days ago, I began tapping trees (Black walnut AND Maple). I’ve already harvested close to 10 gallons of sap! And lastly, I have turned the dining room into a grow room for all the plants we will be selling in the nursery.
On top of all that, I was finally able to FINISH all the major renovations on the East Wing (Anne’s side). It felt like forever, but I can now say, its done, and I can start working on my side again.
I did find out a few weeks ago that I have confirmation from the Office of Cannabis Management that Durham’s “opt-out” of cannabis dispensaries and on site consumption sites does NOT effect my ability to run a micro-business in the town. This made me jump for joy, as Cannabis may be the ticket the farm needs to finally get off the ground. And once the town sees a responsible cannabis business thrive (and receive taxes from it), they might allow others to join the “green rush.”
That’s all for now. I’ve been really enjoying posting on TikTok. If you get a chance, click the link in the top right corner. Its pretty fun, and you get to see all the progress, and how i make stuff!
